Contemporary Ballet Dallas kicks off its 10th Anniversary Season on Friday, October 15, 2010 at the Lakewood Theatre in Dallas, Texas with Wild & Free! Wild & Free honors the independent spirit of contemporary Texas artists and features the music, dancers and choreographers that contribute to our deep artistic legacy!
j
Guest Choreographer Michael Mayes is setting original work to the soulful sounds of BTWHSPVA graduate and Grammy winner Norah Jones! Michael's piece starts at a bus stop with a young girl as she dreams about the journey behind her, and ahead, as she begins a new chapter. Noted Choreographer, and recent Texas transplant, Jill S. Rucci will premiere a work featuring the distinctive stylings of Nina Simone & The Zac Brown Band. As well, Artistic Director Valerie Tabor premieres, "All Alone Together," reminding us that Love - in family, friends and self - is always our salvation and grace.
j
Jennifer Obeney’s “Beneath the Surface” is intertwined with multi-media aspects for a new dance experience! Victoria Dolph is restaging "Glass Houses," an audience favorite this past festival season, set to the unique music of Imogene Heap.  Dancer and choreographer Lea Essmyer is restaging and adding new sections to, “Paradise,” originally set on the Metropolitan Classical Ballet Academy.  CBD is also pleased to bring Dallas’ own, DekaDance, back to the CBD stage as our Guest Company. DekaDance’s modern, quirky and entertaining style always brings high-energy to the stage.

Saturday, December 4, 2010, Jump, Jive & Jingle all the way as we invite you to “swing” into the Christmas season with a fresh look at Charles Dickens' classic tale!  Artistic Director Valerie Shelton Tabor brings a hip update to this loved holiday tale with a present-day flair that ensures to delight young and old alike.   Putting us in the Christmas mood, the story is told through classic and current swing and jazz music, including that of The Brian Setzer Orchestra, Judith Owen and Tommy Dorsey.   Music by the Trammps and a disco “We Wish You a Merry Christmas” take Scrooge back to the 1970’s with the Ghost of Christmas Past.  Scrooge travels with the Ghosts through the present and into the grim future with a musical collage including artists, Harry Connick, Jr., ColdPlay & Linkin’ Park, to name a few.
j
Guest artist Omar Angeles reprises his role, in his seventh season, as the favorite Bah-Hum-Bug for CBD’s annual production.  The show opens in a present-day shopping center on Christmas Eve, amid the hustle and hurry to find the perfect gifts.  While meeting the cast of characters, it becomes clear how Scrooge’s bad holiday spirit affects us all.  Children's roles are also incorporated throughout the show with School of CBD's students playing roles of the Crachitt kids, Snowflakes, and more! As part of CBD’s mission to cultivate local, emerging artists and choreographers, new modern dance company Deka Dance will be performing “Dreamweavers,” with original choreography by Artistic Director Kate Walker, to prepare Scrooge for his journey with the Ghosts of Past, Present & Future.
j
Boogie Woogie Christmas Carol also features the restaging of an authentic 1920’s swing number, “The Big Apple,” by Dallas Swing Dance Society’s Elaine Hewlitt & Don West.  As well, Dallas native, Jorge Fuentes returns direct from New York for his beloved role as father and faithful employee, Bob Cratchitt! Charles Dickens’ tale is pertinent to the common man.
j
The lessons learned by Scrooge are universal and instill the the holiday spirit in one everyday of the year.   A piece of humble pie and a spoonful of holiday spirit, Boogie Woogie Christmas Carol promises an eclectic evening of dance and music.
